YouTube is an American online video-sharing platform based in San Bruno, California. It was created in February 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, then Google bought it in November 2006 for 1.6 billion dollars.

YouTube is a free to use service and is a great way for people to discover what they like. It is used to watch, upload, rate, share videos like music videos, comedy shows, how to guides, hacks, recipes, short and documentary films, movie trailers, live streams and way more interesting things. Users are using the video- sharing service to follow different video bloggers or celebrities they are interested in by subscribing to their channels.

Since it was launched, YouTube hasn’t stopped growing. In February 2017 there were more than 400 hundred hours of content uploaded each minute and one billion hours of it being watched every day. In August 2018 the website was ranked the 2nd most popular site in the entire world.

YouTube offers a variety of features for its users: searching for and watching videos, creating a personal channel and uploading videos to it, liking, commenting and sharing other videos, subscribing to other users, getting notified whenever they post, and creating playlists to organize and group their videos. Also the system recommends videos based on what each watches.

YouTube as well gives awards to its video creators based on the number of subscribers they gained. First is the “Silver Creator Award” at 100k subscribers, 2nd is the “Gold Creator Award” at 1 million subscribers and the 3rd is the “Diamond Creator Award” at 10 million subscribers. Each channel is reviewed before an award is issued, to ensure that it follows the YouTube community guidelines.
