KIA Sorento was created in 2002 in Korea. This car line competes with the Hyundai Santa Fe, Toyota Fortuner, and Ford Everest in the 7-seat SUV segment. With more than 20 years of appearance in the global auto market, KIA Sorento has undergone many upgrades over 4 consecutive generations.
The first version of the Kia Sorento launched in February 2002 is an SUV with a body-on-frame chassis, with the powertrain and body mounted on a separate frame, usually trapezoidal in shape. The car model includes 2 versions, LX and EX, with equipment such as an 8-speaker stereo system, AM/FM radio with single-disc CD player, electric driver’s seat, electric door locks, and windows.
The second version of the Kia Sorento appeared from 2009 to 2014, and this is the KIA’s first model produced in the US. The car applies KIA’s new design language – Refined Boldness, uses the characteristic tiger nose grille, and is equipped with the KIA UVO infotainment system.
The third version of the Kia Sorento was created from 2014 to 2020. This car is based on the third-generation KIA Carnival and has a 5-seat or 7-seat version. The third generation Sorento has an increased length of 95mm compared to the previous generation. The automaker increased the hardness of high-strength steel (the material used to make the body shell) by 14%, so the Sorento achieved a “Good” rating in the Insurance Institute’s small-overlap frontal crash test.
The fourth version of the Kia Sorento appears from 2020 until today. This car type has a larger design with a wheelbase increase of 35mm and an overall length increase of 10mm. The car offers clients two options: a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged hybrid engine, producing 227 horsepower and 350Nm of torque, and a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder gasoline engine, producing 281 horsepower and 422Nm of torque, combined with an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
So, with four consecutive generations, the Kia Sorento is a good choice for clients. With suitable finances and not too expensive like other car models, Kia in general and Kia Sorento in particular will bring customers great amenities.
