Star Wars was created by George Lucas in 1977 and it became a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon. It is now owned by Lucasfilm.

Star Wars is a science-fiction franchise consisting of movies, books, comics, video games, toys, live action shows, and animated shows. It became one of the most successful and influential franchises in motion picture history.

The franchise holds a Guinness World Records title for the “Most successful film merchandising franchise.” In 2020,it was estimated that the Star Wars franchise’s total value was $70 billion, and it is currently the fifth-highest-grossing media franchise in history.

The Star Wars film series consists of three sets of trilogies, which are named the “Skywalker saga”. They were produced non-chronologically, with Episodes IV–VI being released between 1977 and 1983, Episodes I–III between 1999 and 2005, and Episodes VII–IX , between 2015 and 2019.

The films won six Oscars and a special-achievement award for accomplishments in sound, and it revolutionized the motion picture industry with its advancements in special effects.
